This Leh-Zanskar trek offers a challenging and immersive journey into the heart of Ladakh’s remote Zanskar region. Arrive in Leh, the capital of Ladakh. Check into your hotel. Use this day to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude (approx. 3,500 meters). Leh offers a fascinating blend of Tibetan Buddhist culture and stunning landscapes, preparing you for the adventure ahead.
After a leisurely morning in Leh, we embark on a drive to Tilat Do, the starting point of our trek. This drive allows you to witness the dramatic landscapes of Ladakh, transitioning from the bustling town to the serene wilderness. Set up camp at Tilat Do, preparing for the trek's commencement.
The trek officially begins! Today's journey takes us through the rugged terrain of Zanskar, following the frozen Zanskar River (depending on the season). We'll navigate through gorges and valleys, witnessing the raw beauty of the region. Camp overnight at Gyalpo.
A shorter trek today allows for a more relaxed pace. We continue along the Zanskar River, exploring the unique geological formations and enjoying the tranquility of the remote landscape. Camp at Dib.
Today's trek is longer, taking us to the village of Neeraq. This section of the trek often involves walking on the frozen river in winter. Neeraq is a remote and culturally rich village, offering a glimpse into the traditional Zanskari lifestyle. Camp near Neeraq.
We continue our journey along the river, trekking towards Tsarak Do. The landscape remains dramatic and awe-inspiring, with towering cliffs and deep gorges. Camp at Tsarak Do.
Today's trek is a longer one, leading us to the village of Zangla. Zangla is known for its ancient monastery and rich history. We'll experience the local culture by staying in a homestay, offering a unique opportunity to interact with Zanskari families.
After experiencing Zangla, we drive to Padum, the administrative center of Zanskar. This drive provides a different perspective of the region. Check into a hotel in Padum for a comfortable stay.
Today is a reverse journey, driving back to Tsarak Do. This drive allows us to revisit the landscapes we traversed on foot, offering a different perspective. Set up camp at Tsarak Do.
We begin our return trek, walking from Tsarak Do back to Neeraq. This allows us to retrace our steps and appreciate the beauty of the landscape from a different angle.
Continue the return trek, walking from Neeraq back to Gyalpo. The landscapes are still dramatic and beautiful.
The final trekking day. We trek from Gyalpo back to Tilat Do, where our transport awaits. We then drive back to Leh, concluding our Zanskar adventure. Check into a hotel in Leh.
After breakfast, depart from Leh. This marks the end of the program, leaving you with lasting memories of the stunning Zanskar region.
