Reverently known as the “White Hostess,” Kanamo Peak is a spectacular solitary mountain keeping watch over the ancient villages of the Spiti Valley. This 9-day expedition is a deep dive into the high Himalayan desert, offering a brilliant, non-technical introduction to high-altitude mountaineering. While you won’t need advanced climbing skills, physical stamina and sheer determination are essential. Along the way, keep an eye out for rare Himalayan wildlife and prepare to be rewarded with surreal, sweeping panoramas spanning the Spiti, Kinnaur, and Ladakh mountain ranges. We approach this majestic peak with deep respect, prioritizing a profound and humbling mountain experience over mere conquest.
Welcome to the gateway of the Himalayas! Upon arrival, check into your twin-sharing hotel room and take the remainder of the day to relax or stroll through the vibrant town. In the evening, gather with the expedition team for an informal meet-and-greet to kick off the adventure.
Afternoon: The afternoon is dedicated to high rope activities, including the sloth walk, Burma bridge, and artificial wall climbing. These activities serve as both team-building exercises and physical challenges. The day concludes with a bonfire after dinner, fostering camaraderie among the participants.
Spend the day helping your body actively adjust to the mountain air. Enjoy a gentle acclimatization walk around Manali and use the rest of your free time to browse the local markets or rest up for the journey ahead.
Afternoon: The afternoon is dedicated to orientation and preparation for the Kanamo Peak expedition. This includes briefings on the route, safety procedures, and equipment usage. The day ends with an adventure movie and a bonfire, building anticipation for the journey.
Following an early breakfast, embark on an epic 8-9 hour drive into the high-altitude desert. The route takes you over the famous Rohtang Pass (3,979m)—where we will pause for a brief acclimatization walk—and across Kunzum La (4,600m), treating you to breathtaking Himalayan vistas before arriving at your guesthouse in Kaza.
Immerse yourself in Spiti's rich Buddhist heritage. Visit the cliffside fortress of Dhankar Gompa and explore Tabo Monastery, famously dubbed the 'Ajanta of the Himalayas.' Afterward, drive up to Kibber, one of the highest inhabited villages on Earth, and settle into a welcoming local homestay for the night.
Lace up your boots for the first day of trekking. This 5-6 hour hike from Kibber up to Kanamo Base Camp features a mix of steep inclines and gradual slopes, all backdropped by phenomenal views of the Spiti Valley. Arrive at 4,800 meters, pitch your expedition tents, and get plenty of rest for the summit push.
Wake up for a 3:00 AM alpine start. This grueling 10-12 hour round-trip climb takes you over demanding snow and scree toward the final ridge. After pushing past two distinct shoulders, step onto the summit to witness an unforgettable panorama featuring Parang La and Pin Parvati Pass. Descend carefully back to Base Camp by late afternoon.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on a steady 3-4 hour downhill trek back to the comforts of Kibber. Spend your afternoon resting your legs, enjoying the warmth of your homestay, or wandering through the historic village.
Hop back into the vehicles for a scenic 9-10 hour return journey. Trace your path back over Kunzum La and Rohtang Pass, eventually dropping down into the lush greenery of Manali. Check into your hotel, freshen up, and gather with your climbing team for a celebratory farewell dinner.
After a final breakfast at the hotel, your incredible high-altitude adventure officially comes to a close. Depart for your onward journey carrying lifelong memories of the White Hostess.
