As the tallest peak in the Indian Zanskar Range, Mount Nun is a snow-draped giant that offers a monumental alpine challenge. This 22-day expedition is a true test of endurance and technical skill, taking you from the vibrant Buddhist culture of Ladakh through high-altitude deserts, and up onto colossal glaciers. Graded as technically challenging, climbing Mount Nun requires a deep respect for extreme environments. Our itinerary prioritizes safety, strategic acclimatization, and careful pacing to ensure you have the best possible chance of reaching the 7,135-meter summit and returning safely.
Touch down at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. Transfer to a comfortable 4-star hotel and take the rest of the day to rest and gently adjust to the altitude, followed by an evening briefing.
Go for a light morning hike to Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa to kickstart your acclimatization. The afternoon is reserved for a thorough medical check, gear inspection, and a detailed expedition briefing.
Embark on a spectacular 6-7 hour drive alongside the Indus River, passing dramatic rock formations and ancient monasteries. Descending to Kargil for the night helps optimize your body's altitude adjustment.
Travel 4-5 hours deeper into the remote Zanskar landscape along the Suru River. Arrive at the roadhead in Tangol, set up your first camp, and take an afternoon acclimatization walk.
Begin the trekking phase with a 5-7 hour hike along the glacier moraine. Make a gradual ascent to establish Base Camp right at the foot of Mount Nun, spending the afternoon organizing and resting.
A critical day for adjusting to the altitude. Take short hikes around the camp and participate in a traditional puja ceremony to seek blessings for a safe climb, followed by a technical route briefing.
Face the first technical challenge of the climb (6-8 hours), utilizing fixed ropes and navigating the glacier to set up Camp 1 on the col, offering sweeping mountain views.
Spend two full days at Camp 1 to let your body adapt to the extreme altitude. Use this time to practice essential alpine skills like ascending fixed ropes and crevasse rescue techniques.
Tackle a steep 5-7 hour climb across mixed terrain. Establish Camp 2 just beneath the summit pyramid, placing you in a crucial position for the final push.
The final acclimatization phase. Focus on deep rest, hydration, and mental preparation while monitoring weather conditions and finalizing the summit strategy.
Push through a demanding 6-8 hour technical ascent to set up the highest camp. Eat an early dinner and try to catch a few hours of sleep before the summit attempt.
Wake up for an alpine start (1:00-2:00 AM) under headlamps. Endure 10-14 hours of intense climbing on steep 40-50° icy slopes to reach the top. Celebrate the 360° panoramic views before carefully descending back to Camp 2.
Three built-in contingency days to wait out harsh weather conditions, make a secondary summit bid, or simply recover.
Spend 5-7 hours carefully navigating back down through the lower camps, collecting all gear along the way. Arrive at Base Camp to celebrate the safe descent.
Enjoy a full day of physical recovery and reflection at Base Camp. Take it easy and pack your gear for the trek out.
Hike 4-5 hours back to the roadhead at Tangol, then catch a 4-5 hour drive to your hotel in Kargil. Celebrate with a hot shower and a victory dinner.
Relax during a scenic 6-7 hour return drive to Leh. Conclude the adventure with a formal expedition debrief and a farewell dinner.
Enjoy a final breakfast before transferring to the airport for your journey home.
